EPA’s recent 2020 study shows that the largest contributor to greenhouse emissions is transportation. Electric vehicles have proven to reduce emissions and with their historic growth of ~30% over each year, 6M cars are expected to be shipped in 2022.
However, with all EVs, the growth was phenomenal at over 80% in 2021. This necessitates that the energy industry is prepared to provide an environment that’s conducive for such growth. This includes batteries that fuel growth, minerals to be sourced that are used to make such batteries. Gartner reports that China has imposed a mandate on automakers requiring that EVs make up 40% of all sales by 2030 and automakers establishing new factories for manufacturing. The 3 most common gases are carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4) and nitrous oxide (N2O) [1].
